Modo: I hear this is really great for modeling, but I don't know much about it. You can do some pretty cool stuff in it, but only if you're setting up materials or setting up a scene to be rendered. Katana: This is only a lighting/look dev package. But from what I understand, being a Houdini expert can net you a pretty good salary in most places. It is all procedurally based, and very powerful. You can do amazing things in it that you would never be able to do in other packages currently. Houdini: To quote a friend, "Houdini makes the easy hard, and the impossible possible". If a studio doesn't use it, then that's likely because they are not happy with Maya, Autodesk, or their pipeline was built around another package.ģds Max: I think it is used more in games and architecture, but I could be wrong. Maya: I'd say Maya's greatest strength is it is used almost everywhere. If you are targeting working at a studio that primarily does motion graphics, it's a good bet. C4D: I don't know much about C4D, but I hear it is used a lot in motion graphics.
